7 Lakes Hike in Ridnaun -
so close to heaven

As the saying goes: the (hiking) path is the goal - and there are plenty of them in Ridnaun and the surrounding area: from leisurely hikes through meadows and forests, to intermediate tours, to high alpine summit experiences, the Ridnaun Valley has it all. One of the most beautiful and at the same time most challenging high mountain hikes is the 7 Lakes Hike.

The Seven Lakes Tour is a popular circular hike at the foot of the southern Stubai Alps, which connects seven mountain lakes, some a little smaller, others a little larger. The hike in the Ridnaun Valley is certainly not a tour for everyone, as it requires excellent physical condition, but stunning natural landscapes, relics of centuries-old mining and shimmering mountain lake waters are worth every effort!

Seven (lakes) at one blow: In the rear Ridnaun Valley you can enjoy a premium high-mountain experience. At the foot of the southern Stubai Alps, at the valley end of the Ridnaun Valley, the area is sparsely hiked, but - and perhaps just for that reason - very scenic.

As the name suggests, the 7 Lakes Tour leads experienced and fit mountain freaks through an almost untouched mountain world from lake to lake and rewards them with unique panoramic views. In addition, the seven lakes, which all have a certain recognition value, have a calming effect on the mind and refresh some tired limbs.

The 7 Lakes Hike in the rear Ridnaun Valley is not without its challenges - at least as far as the walking time is concerned. So, if you are a late riser and used to leisurely 3-4-hour hikes from alpine hut to alpine hut, you should consider this round tour wisely. The difference in altitude of approx. 1,400 m can be a challenge for some as well. With a walking time of 8 hours, this 7 Lakes Tour near Ridnaun, past seven lakes (although in reality there are many more lakes), is a full-day tour for fit mountain hikers.

The almost 8-hour hike in the Stubai Alps is very demanding in terms of fitness. Considering the distance of about 20 km, it is recommended to set off early in the morning. If you want to save yourself some time, energy and metres in altitude, you can use the shuttle bus to the Moarerbergalm (Poschhaus) hut. Alternatively, you can combine the tour with an overnight stay at the Grohmannhütte hut or Teplitzerhütte hut and divide the hike into two days.

The car park in front of the Schneeberg Mining Museum near Maiern in Ridnaun is the starting point of our full-day tour. From here, follow trail 28 through the Lazzach valley southwest up to the Moarerbergalm hut (2,113 m, also known as Poschalm). Continue along the mine nature trail to the junction of the M 33; now follow this northwards up to the Mittlerer Moarer Egetsee lake (2,468 m, a clear mountain lake in which the sky is reflected) and further up to the Egetjoch passage (2,693 m, the highest point of the tour).

Then on the north side, at the fork in the trail, turn left with M 33 A north-westwards and descend briefly to the Hintere Senner Egetsee lake (2,647 m) and continue following M 33 A down to the Vordere Senner Egetseen lakes (approx. 2,510 m).

Continue down the valley over beautiful steps and past the beautifully situated and green-blue shimmering Trüben See lake (2,344 m, perfect for a pleasant rest on the shore) to the junction with the M 33 descending directly from the Egetjoch passage, following this down to the bridge over the Fernbach stream (2,118 m), on the other side briefly up to the Grohmannhütte hut (2,254 m) and possibly further to the Teplitzerhütte hut.

The descent is on Trail no. 9 eastwards down the valley to Aglsboden (refreshment stop) and via the Burkhardklamm gorge back to the starting point in the rear Ridnaun Valley.
